In the North-east Pacific, between California and Hawaii, the waste produced by human activities and dumped in the oceans have been carried to a new bulimic “continent” by the ocean’s currents, whose size have reached almost 3.5 million square kilometers, twice the size of Texas.
The Ouroboros Team project is to create a circular opening in the form of a snake (ouroboros) at the center of the waste island and to photograph it by satellite. This would create a symbolic first map of the 6th continent. Ouroboros Team also proposes to recycle plastic as part of a series of artworks entitled “6th continent”.

For over 10 years, the Algalita Marine Research Foundation has been the agency responsible for studying the evolution of the 6th continent.
According to this organization, waste from coastlines and ships float for years to accumulate in two broad areas known as Eastern Pacific Garbage Patch and Western Pacific Garbage Patch.

Greenpeace estimates that 80% of the garbage comes from continents. Agglutinate fragments by successive rings of different sizes, the smallest in the middle, where the currents are shrinking to the central black pole. It is composed of 6 times more plastic debris and plankton at the base of the food chain in the area for birds.
