Turkey Tuz Lake Golu
Salt lake of Tuz Golu is near the town of Cimhanbeyli. It is a remnant of a sea trapped during the uplift of the Taurus and it is four times larger than the Geneva Lake. It is too salty (330 g per liter) for any living organisms to develop. Shallow, it dries in the summer and its banks are transformed into a salt ice 30 cm thick. Downstream of the lake, the road climbs through peeled hills to Ankara.
Since 2006, Ouroboros Team is waiting for Turkish government approvals for two complementary projects: the collection and cleaning of plastic waste around the lake and completion of a gigantic Ouroboros along the circumference to be photographed by satellite.
Waste Management :
The people and the environment of Lake Tuz Golu are threatened by pollution due to inadequate water and waste management. Ouroboros Team proposes to engage in recycling and recovery, as well as to raise water and waste management awareness.
Saline Ouroboros:
Lake Tuz Golu has a circumference of 1500 km. In digging over a width of 100 meters around the salt layer formed around the lake during the dry season, the artists want to draw a snake biting its own tail (ouroboros). By breaking the salt-water surface, the contrast between the humidity of the water and dry salt will be visible on infrared satellite images.
